Welcome to Gavin’s blog! Just a place to record his many heart-warming little quotes, actions and milestones.
The kid is super-smart, capable of higher level thinking than most of his peers. He has used this to negotiate and sometimes manipulate to get his way! And if that doesn’t work, he will simply tell you the way it is.
It is nearly Spring in Louisville, Kentucky. We recently cleared a path from our backyard to Goose Creek. Gavin, 14-year-old brother Keenan, and I went out for a little hike and had a blast! I was working on marking the entrance back up to our house, when I hear Keenan saying to Gavin, “Isn’t this more fun that ‘game’?” and Gavin said, “Yea!!” “Game” of course being either Gamecube Lego Star Wars, or PS3 Little Big Planet.
Speaking of that, Gavin’s favorite thing to do is play video games!! Specifically, Lego Star Wars at Mom’s or Lego Indiana Jones at Dad’s. “Can I play my game?” is asked at least once or twice a day. We both limit him and encourage other activities, but it is also amazing to see how adept he is at the games. He picks up the skills so incredibly fast!!
He loves to learn how to do things, and then do them himself every chance he gets. I love to get him involved in anything I am doing, to teach him. At chore time, I give him little things to do and he cheerfully does them, then announces it.
He is such a joy… my favorite part of the day is waking him up. After I get his sister Grace up (age 11) and she gets in the shower, I go in Gavin’s room and pick him up. Oh, he’s getting heavy. He stretches and then I carry him to my room and put him in my bed to wake up slowly while watching “Play with me Sesame”. He loves the show! He will watch attentively and respond to the questions and games on the show. I like it so much more than the regular Sesame Street because it is all puppets and learning, and silly songs etc.
Ah more later. I will see if I can find and post a cute photo!
